About Craig:
My name is Craig & I'm 56 years old. I have lived in Bournemouth all my life. I'm married to Julia with 2 children; Theo who has recently graduated as a vet and Evie who is studying at St Andrews university. I recently retired after working 35 years with Lloyds Bank. I now spend most of my time trying to keep fit and also following AFC Bournemouth!
Why You Chose the London Marathon:
I first ran the London Marathon in 2019 and was completely blown away by the levels of support that you receive from the spectators that line the whole course. There is no other race like it.
I have always been interested in keeping fit and I've been running since schooldays. I had already completed a few half marathons and stepping up to a full marathon seemed the natural next step. It's been a few years since I last ran the London Marathon, so now I'm retired, I'm really keen to run it again!
Your connection to Roots and Help & Care:
I first supported Help & Care, fundraising for them when I ran the London Marathon in 2019. I was really impressed and also humbled by the wide range of support that they provide to the local community. When I got back in touch with the organisation, I was introduced to their Roots Gardening Service which I feel is a fantastic initiative to support.
Now that I'm retired, I'm looking forward to using some of my time supporting and fundraising for a fabulous local charity.
Your Training Journey:
I followed a 17-week marathon training plan that began at the end of December. Until then, I maintained a good level of fitness, trying to keep the body/legs injury free!
I know from experience that the hardest part of the marathon journey is completing the long weekend training runs. To help avoid injury, I have a physio who takes great delight in "digging" into my calves & thighs to keep them flexible!
What You’re Looking Forward to on Marathon Day:
I hope on the day that I can get to the start line fit and then enjoy the wave of support throughout the race. The last 3 miles are so special, where there's just a wall of noise!
At 56, I will probably only have a few years left running this distance, especially the London Marathon, so I plan to make the most of this experience; the training journey, the fundraising and the day itself!

Your message to Supporters:
I would like to thank all my supporters, especially family and friends for all the help they have given me over the years. It's very much appreciated. I know any donations from them will make a huge difference to this fabulous local charity.
